San Sebastian
The term “Classic Beauty” makes perfect sense in San Sebastian. The boardwalk, the beach and the architecture create that perfect frame, that makes every picture the apperance of being filtered. But there’s no need for filters here, as the colors come alive on their own. Even in the gastronomy! Every bar and restaurant is filled with the most creative, local dish, that add even more color and variety to the city. Then you have the surfer who casually strolls by on his bare feet after a morning encounter with the waves, just in for a quick bite to eat, before setting out to the salty waves again. This is just part of the wonderful mixture you will find here!
The Film festival in San Sebastian might not be as famous for Scandinavians as the ones in Berlin and Cannes, but it actually draws quite a famous crowd every year. Did you know that there’s a hotel which has all their rooms dedicated to a famous award-winning actor/actress? Even Hitchcock himself greets you in the reception 😉
I find San Sebastian on of the pretties cities I have ever been to. Small, cozy, filled with green spaces and perfect for surfing gives you this amazing feeling of freedom and smile on your face. In addition, I must say that night life is very good. In the evenings all bars in old town fill with people enjoying pinxos with drink in their hand, and later go to one of the nightclubs with good international music.
Penny for Elin’s thoughts on the city:
To me, the city of San Sebastian has a beautiful color contrast. The sandy “La Concha” beach, the green Cantabria Sea and the white fence on the boardwalk, creates the perfect frame for this international city. The hotel offer is continuously growing, and gourmet activities are ever so popular. This is really a pearl for any visitor, but you might have to get prepared for some rough waves and wind that surfers from all over the world, seek desperately. I recommend visiting a cider house and please forget about any diet while you’re there.
