Valencia

It’s safe to say that Valencia is the least unspoilt of the Mediterranean cities when it comes to mass tourism, even though the offer for accommodation, food and activities is quite similar to neighbours like Alicante and Barcelona. The architecture of the City of Arts and Science is impressive, even for someone who knows next to nothing about architecture. It’s surrounded by parks and big avenues, which makes the area a perfect place for bike tours.

It’s a city where traditions are well kept, but it also welcomes new input. One of the traditions, Las Fallas in April. involves a lot of fireworks, the noisy ones, and it might be a good idea to stay away if you’re of the jumpy kind. The Valencian orange production helps maintaining vitamin C on the breakfast tables all over the world. And the paella… it needs to be savored from its origin, avoiding the fake tourist version.

Penny for Ania’s thoughts on the city:

Well, this is an interesting city, I could say it’s the city of the opposites. Its here where old architecture meets probably the best known Spanish modern buildings of Oceanic and Science city, old town with traditional bars contra new modern venues for your events as Ubracle for instance. It is by the beach, but actually the city center is quite away from it.

But all of it makes it interesting for the visitor, and especially as there is no direct flights from Scandinavia (at least for now), it is one of least known Spanish cities for our clients.

What I find super interesting about Valencia, is also the history how they become orange producers, meanwhile rest of Spain is focused on Wine and Olive Oil – remember to ask our guides about it!

Penny for Elin’s thoughts on the city:

I have been to several events in the beautiful Hotel Arenas in Valencia. It´s not in the city center, but by the beach, and it would be difficult to find something negative to say about it. A stay combined with beach activities, bicycling, orange harvest and paella cooking, and you’re all set for a great incentive program.  I’m not an expert on architecture, but I don’t think the city of Arts and Science leaves anyone indifferent, it’s an authentic jaw dropper. I can’t help taking a picture every time I go, because it changes so much, depending on the angle.  It’s a pity you seldom find direct flights from Scandinavia, but if you find a good combination, you shouldn’t miss the chance for a visit.
